Gentle Yoga
If you have special challenges and needs such as chronic pain that have stopped you from taking even a beginner's yoga class - this class is for YOU! Our focus is still on fundamental hatha yoga postures (asanas) but with special modifications. Variations may be done in a chair instead of seated on the floor. Emphasis on breathing techniques (pranayama), balance and core strength will help you feel younger and more vital.
Kids Yoga (ages 4 and up)
Your child will engage in yoga postures that allow them to strengthen and balance their body, mind and spirit by exploring laughter, focus and relaxation. Together we will use instruments, songs and games to share the many benefits of Yoga and embrace the natural silliness in children while evoking the calming spirit as well.
Mediation 101
Why Meditate?
Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. Practicing meditation techniques encourages and develops concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm seeing of the true nature of things. By engaging with a particular meditation practice, you learn the patterns and habits of your mind. A meditation practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With regular work and patience, these nourishing, focused states of mind can deepen into profoundly peaceful and energized states of mind. Such experiences can have a transformative effect and can lead to a new understanding of life.
There are many things in life that are beyond our control. However, it is possible to take responsibility for our own state-of-mind and to change it for the better. According to Buddhism, this is the most important thing we can do. Buddhism teaches that it is the only real antidote to our own personal sorrows, and to the anxieties, fears, hatreds, and general confusions that beset the human condition.
In Meditation 101 you will learn:
- How to sit comfortably: Learn different ways of sitting which will enhance posture skills and help you go deeper inward
- Focused breathing techniques: learn how to quiet the mind through breath
- Walking Meditation
- Inspirational passages from classic and modern literature on meditation
- A compassionate way to be with yourself and others
- Learn to focus on the breath, combined with short sits and conscience walking meditation
- Explore rich readings from scholars teaching the path followed by short discussions
- Experience guided imagery as well as other relaxation techniques

Move Your Asana! with Dr. Maria Perri
This class was born late one evening when I was very stressed and went into the Yoga studio alone for my "home" practice. I put on some of my favorite songs and just moved. Sometimes I "danced" or did ballistic stretching, sometimes did Yoga and most often I combined it all... Like a kid with no plan, I let myself play and explore and burned more calories than in aerobics. I felt calm and centered after and moved with more freedom than I can ever remember - it was the start of the "expressive, authentic movement" this class explores.
Movement heals. Come and play with me, explore your mind body connection. Feel your places of tension and learn how to move beyond them. Experience the joy of your breath and the power of letting go.
If you find Yoga too "slow" and Zumba too fast… this class may be for you!
No prior dance or Yoga experience needed. You are invited to bring a favorite song that "moves" you to share with the class.
