Chiropractic & Rehabilitation at Perri Chiropractic
:: Our approach to chiropractic is truly unique. Dr Perri has a Diploma in Rehabilitation and both she and Dr. Jodi Bolsenbroek continue an avid course of study so that they can provide patients with the latest methods and treatments to help them achieve optimal health.

The old addage "Once you start going, you'll have to go for the rest of your life" is not true at our office. In fact, our Doctors are careful to avoid fostering dependency using a treatment approach called "active care". During "active care" our goal is to find and correct the true underlying causes of the discomfort or pain, empower the patient with self-care exercises and then release them from care. The patient is included in their own treatment which gives a patient control over their healing process. This is especially important with chronic pain patients.

By addressing underlying causative issues like poor posture while sitting at a computer or driving, poor patterns of lifting and bending, in-coordination in movement, muscle weakness, poor cardio-vascular fitness, poor balance and general deconditioning, the patient has an opportunity to get better and to maintain a home program that keeps them better. It is empowering to the patient and cost-effective.

During office visits, our Doctors take the time to first relax the muscles so they are able to give a Chiropractic treatment that is gentle, specific and painless. Because of Dr. Perri's extensive training and study, you can be assured that treatment decisions at Perri Chiropractic are based on evidence that is reported in research studies and is cutting edge.

Most importantly, treatment is based on the needs and goals of our patients and is progressive. What this means is that treatment changes as the patient improves. Our Doctors are careful to address a patient's posture, patterns of movement and fitness levels with an open awareness of the mind-body connection. This includes the importance of healthy habits, a good diet, and the ability to truly love and nurture ourselves.

::Hypnotherapy::

Hypnotherapy with Pat Dillon :: Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state which all of us experience on a regular basis. A natural hypnotic state occurs when we daydream, mediate, become deeply immersed in thought or absorbed watching a movie. Hypnosis is a state or condition in which the mind becomes highly responsive to suggestions. The conscious critical function of the mind is bypassed and the subconscious mind can be addressed directly. The subconscious mind is that part of the mind that never sleeps. It is responsible for our habits, our memories, our emotions and for regulating the functions of the body.

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of the hypnotic state to bring about your desired changes in behavior or feelings. It installs productive, healthy and useful patterns into the subconscious mind and eliminates undesirable patterns or habits. Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, anyone can enter hypnosis very easily, provided they want to be hypnotized. The client has complete control over what he or she will or will not do in hypnosis and can instantly reject any suggestion that may cause discomfort.

Our hypnotherapy program can help with:
- Smoking Cessation - Of all the changes we can make in our lives, getting rid of the smoking habit is by the far the most beneficial. Hypnotherapy will eliminate the urge to smoke, enabling you to retake control of your life.
- Weight Release - Healthy eating habits are the key to a long and happy life. Hypnotherapy changes your eating habits so that you naturally and in the appropriate time frame, shed excess weight. Healthy eating habits are installed and any desires for large quantities of fat producing foods just fall away.
- Stress Relief - Stress can be reduced and even eliminated through hypnotherapy. A sense of peacefulness and control in your life will be restored through the use of visualizations and positive suggestions.
- Self-Hypnotism - Probably the most valuable tool you will ever acquire, self-hypnotism allows you to directly repattern your own subconscious mind to obtain any result desired. - Other Programs - Hypnotherapy is suitable for dealing with a variety of other issues including phobias and fears, memory, sales improvements, self confidence, test taking improvement and public speaking.

  • ::Acupuncture::
    The human body is an incredibly complicated organism. The function of all the different and intricate systems in our bodies, from the repair and regeneration of muscles and bones, to the release of hormones to control how much blood flows through our veins, happens without the need for us to consciously direct those systems. Our bodies work in balance – our own internal capability to regulate what’s happening internally and make instantaneous adjustments to our environments is what keeps us alive and healthy. Western medicine calls this ongoing process homeodynamics (or homeostasis).

    In Chinese medicine, we look at this process as the fluid balance between and within yin and yang. When we experience any kind of event that disrupts this balance beyond our bodies’ ability to regain it, some kind of stagnation or stasis results. Where stasis persists, dysfunction results. Stasis can be caused by anything from physical trauma (injury or surgery), to poor diet, and lack of or too much exercise, overuse of medications, as well as exposure to environments that are too hot, cold, windy, or damp.

    Over the course of 3000+ years, Chinese medicine has developed a comprehensive system to address these dysfunctions which manifest as disease, physical and emotional pain, etc. by restoring the body’s ability to clear the blockages. Specifically, acupuncture accesses different pathways called meridians through the stimulation of different points or regions with extremely fine needles, moxibustion (the burning of a therapeutic herb on or near the skin), gua sha (a therapy employing a smooth surface to friction the skin), cupping (where glass cups are warmed to create a vacuum on the skin), tui na (therapeutic body work) or electrical stimulation (an extremely mild electrical current attached to the needles).

    What does it treat?

    In East Asia, acupuncture has been used as a part of a complete medical system for thousands of years to treat all manner of illnesses and conditions. In the US, acupuncture began to be recognized by western medicine after groups of doctors traveled to China in the 1970’s to witnessed surgeries performed with acupuncture as the only form of anesthesia. Since then, Western researchers have conducted numerous studies to begin to better understand Chinese medicine in the context of western science. In 2003, the World Health Organization published a study, titled "Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials". Their findings, while not comprehensive, provided a list of “diseases, symptoms or conditions for which acupuncture has been proved-through controlled trials-to be an effective treatment”, as well as “diseases, symptoms or conditions for which the therapeutic effect of acupuncture has been shown”. ::Wellness Springs Back Safe Core Strengthening Class::

    Have you tried joining a gym or taking a Pilates or Yoga class and found that it increases your neck or back pain? If so, now there is a solution now for you to exercise without hurting yourself! Dr. Maria Perri, Chiropractor and Board Certified Diplomate in Rehabilitation has created a Back Safe Core Strengthening Class based on the latest fitness trends AND the most current research in spinal stability training.

    The class starts with a 7 point Functional Movement Screening based on the work of Gray Cook and Lee Burton (go to www.functionalmovement.com for more info) to set a baseline of flexibility, stability and balance. The key problem for most people who injure themselves during exercise is that they train over dysfunction. Injury is inevitable when you have imbalances or weaknesses that are unaddressed PRIOR to beginning an exercise program. The Functional Movement Screening finds key issues like asymmetry in flexibility (your right hamstring is tighter than your left) or lack of ability to create stability (you can not co-contract your low back muscles simultaneously with your abdominals) or poor balance.

    The class then begins with teaching the basics of proper stability and movement focusing on the individual needs of the students. Class progresses to a warm-up that is safe for the spine and a series of increasingly challenging exercises that are designed to improve range of motion, core strength and balance without aggravating the neck and back.

    The Back Safe Core Strengthening Class is perfect for those who fall between the cracks; physical therapy was successful but you are not quite ready for a Pilates or Yoga class. It is also ideal for those just returning to exercise and wanting to start safely. Class is every Wed 10AM at Wellness Spring.

    All levels of fitness are welcome. This class is for those ready to exercise. Ability to kneel and get on and off the floor is a pre-requisite. It is not for those in acute pain or on pain medication and is not a substitute for proper medical/chiropractic care.

    In addition, Wellness Springs also offers private Functional Movement Screenings and one-on-one Personal Training sessions based on the same cutting edge information. Private sessions are recommended for those with long standing chronic problems, athletes who want to improve performance or anyone who wants to take themselves to the next level of fitness and well-being.
